Web Product Scraper · Last updated:
Web Product Scraper is a Chrome extension that reads product information (names, prices, SKUs, descriptions, image and video links) from shop pages the user opens, shows it in a side panel, and lets the user export it, including as a printable PDF catalogue.
What the extension processes
- Website content of the pages you choose to scrape: the product data on the page and, when you start a collection run, the product pages of that listing which the extension opens in background tabs.
- Your settings: which data columns to keep, an optional code prefix, an optional price markup, and the address of your own image-processing tool if you enter one.
- Your business details for the PDF catalogue, only if you type them in Settings: your shop's name, WhatsApp number, address, email, website, Instagram handle, GST number and a logo image. They are printed on your own catalogue and in the WhatsApp links on it, nothing else.
- A download count: how many exports you have saved on this computer, kept only so the extension can ask once, on your second download, whether you would rate it. It is never sent anywhere.
- Site profiles you create with "Teach this site": for each shop, the CSS selectors and URL patterns of the elements you clicked (for example "the price is the element
#price"). A profile holds rules, not page content or personal data.
Where the data goes
- Everything is kept in the browser's extension storage and is never sent to the developer or to any third party. The scraped list and the catalogue logo stay on this computer (
chrome.storage.local); the products of a catalogue you open are kept only for that browser session (chrome.storage.session). Settings (business details included) and site profiles usechrome.storage.sync: if you have turned on Chrome sync, Chrome itself copies them to your other Chrome browsers through your Google account, like other extension settings; with sync off they stay on this computer. - Exports (Excel, CSV, JSON, ZIP) are written to your Downloads folder through Chrome's download manager. The PDF catalogue opens as a page of the extension; you save it with Chrome's own print window ("Save as PDF").
- The WhatsApp buttons in a catalogue are plain wa.me links to the number you entered. Nothing is sent by the extension; WhatsApp opens only when someone reading your catalogue taps one.
- The only outbound connections the extension makes are (a) to the shop website you are scraping, to read its pages and fetch its images or videos for a ZIP, and (b) to a server address you type into the settings (for example an image-processing tool running on your own computer). If you leave that setting empty, no such connection is made.
- "Site read wrong? Report it" opens an email draft in your own email app, addressed to the developer, with the page's address, the extension version and the panel's message filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
What the extension does not do
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no remote code.
- No collection of personal information, browsing history, credentials or payment details.
- No data sale or sharing.
Permissions
The extension asks for browser permissions only for the features described above (reading the open page, opening tabs during a run, saving downloads, showing notifications, optionally blocking images in the tabs it opens). Host permissions for a shop are requested per site, when you start a run on it, and can be revoked at any time from the extension's details page in Chrome.
Removing your data
Uninstalling the extension deletes its stored data. The "Clear" button in the panel removes the scraped list at any time.
